Of course Paul’s deep knowledge of the region, its flora and its beauties – and not to forget his patience and his humor – have made me feel like it all was too short.  As a result, my eyes and my brain are full of new images and new knowledge.

– Jean-Claude B, Switzerland.

Grand piano found on Miami Beach. Musician confesses.

An email dropped into my in tray at 7.30a.m this morning. By 9a.m I had made my confession to the BBC. A Grand Piano had indeed washed up on a sand bar on Miami Beach. I feel duty bound to admit to the fact that we could have been responsible for this aquatic fly tipping incident.

20 years ago we did a photo shoot to promote my CD No Compromise. We bought a piano (strikingly similar to the one that was washed up) and placed it on Ogmore beach in Wales. Now for the stories sake I cannot remember whether we left it there or disposed of it in a proper manner but I regularly do feel guilt on behalf of other people for things I did not do. This is no exception. Look at the similarity in the photos of a grand piano on a beach in Wales and the one washed up in Miami Beach.

Isn't it incredible that a musical instrument used for the purposes of composition didn't do the exact opposite in the salt water and decompose? I’m all a quaver And Dante is breathing over my shoulder. Who ever thought then that there would be such a thing as the internet? Who also thought that the conveyor belt that is the Gulf Stream that carries warm water from the Gulf of Mexico would sink the piano and carry it back to the Gulf only for it to re emerge on the surface trapped by a sand bank. How cruel fate is. As we say in Britain “Fair cop Guvnor”. By the way the “C” above middle C was a bit flat so the grand piano found on the sand bar on Miami Beach might need to be tuned.
